Valentine runs in Paris!

We have drawn a little Valentine in love ❤️ who declares his flame with a little flower from the Monceau park… 24 km in spite of a strong cold (-11°C/12.2°F felt), with beautiful descents alternating, of course, with rough climbs… Bravo to the brave who took over the street… “La rue est à nous !” “The street is ours !” Thank you very much Alice, Angélina, Mahdi, Patricia and Pierre ! —- Paris Running Tours: private tours or free outings, stay tuned! Another tour with our friends from Turin for a new discovery of Paris

Daniele and Marina from Turin regularly come to Paris. We had the pleasure of doing a new Paris running tour together, a beautiful 18 km race in a rather cold Paris. This time, we explored the north of Paris (last February, we had covered 20 km around the Seine). Before venturing into the beautiful Montmartre, we passed by the rue de Turin 😉:   Who says Montmartre says mills, the “Moulin-Rouge” (a “fake” mill whose theatre is well known) and the “Moulin de la Galette”, composed of two authentic mills:   In Montmartre, we went to celebrate Marcel Aymé, here immortalized as the “Passe Muraille”, the hero of his famous novel. The statue was created by his friend, the actor Jean Marais, just in front of the writer’s house. Who remembers the inauguration of this work in February 1989? Exactly 30 years ago!   We made a detour to see the Clos Montmartre. The vines are sleeping under the snow this February. Come also in October to participate in the Clos Montmartre grape harvest festival (“La fête des Vendanges du Clos Montmartre”). On the occasion of the race “Les foulées du tertre 2008″, one of our guides on the podium was rewarded with one of the very narrow bottles of the Clos Montmartre (on the right of the photo). A little known and very rare wine, the vine having a small production…   And of course, the magnificent view of Paris:   We left Montmartre (downhill, it’s easier 😉) to reach the centre of Paris via beautiful covered passages:   Even if we still had a few kilometers to run, we took a short break to admire the beautiful church of Saint Eustache: Many thanks Marina and Daniele! We look forward to meeting again next year (or perhaps earlier).   If you too, you come to Paris, we will be very happy to run with you. From the Latin Quarter to the Eiffel Tower with Peter

Peter – “Place de l’Alma”, far off in the axis of avenue Montaigne, the “Sacré Coeur” on the “Butte Montmartre” 10:09 AM – Peter, who lives in Arhus, Denmark, prepares his next marathon, which will take place in April (Rotterdam or Hamburg). The training of Peter began well, notably by a long Running Tour in Barcelona with our friends of Barcelona Running Tour, a 21 km tour (~13 mi). On this Friday, February 15th, two days later, it is with a running done at a good pace that we did 19 km. We combined “the useful and the pleasant” by evoking the history and the cultural places of Paris. As we can see above, we did a small break “place de l’Alma” (located just after the 28th km of the marathon of Paris 😉 ) with in the continuation of the avenue Montaigne, the Sacred Heart which dominates Paris since the Mound Montmartre. A little later, having “climbed” the small hill of Chaillot, a nice tourist suggested photographing us since the esplanade of the Trocadéro: The Eiffel tower from the Trocadéro Back to the left bank, in the garden of the Luxembourg, we admired the Fountain Medici, formerly called ” Cave of the Luxembourg “: Peter – The Fountain Medici – In the background, to the right, the Panthéon By enlarging the photo, you can see Galatée and Acis the shepherd, threatened by the Cyclops Polyphème. It is Marie de Medici, the widow of king Henri IV, who made build this fountain in 1630, in memory of the Florentine gardens of her childhood. Not far from the garden of the Luxembourg, since the street of the Val de Grâce, appears the church of the same name: Peter – Church of the “Val de Grace” Another queen, Anne of Austria, made build the Church of the “Val de Grâce”. The building was ended in 1667 (one of the highest domes in the period). Wife of Louis XIII, she made the wish to realize this church at the birth of her future child, birth which arrived 23 years after its marriage! This first son, Louis XIV, the famous “Sun King”, put the first stone of the building at the age of 7. Merci Peter, have a good marathon!  The route of the tour:

Round trip Montmartre-La Seine with Agnieszka

Agnieszka – Pont des Arts 6:50 AM – Agnieszka lives in Manchester (United Kingdom). During her stay in Paris, Agnieszka chose to live near Montmartre. For this morning tour, we decided to go southward to join the river Seine and return to Montmartre by finishing by a sports ascent towards the basilica of the “Sacré Cœur”. On our way back, we crossed several mills: the “Moulin-Rouge” and the two mills which constitute the “Moulin de la Galette” (the “Blute-fin” and the “Radet”). Contrary to the “Moulin de la Galette”, the “Moulin Rouge” was never a real windmill, but from the beginning, a cabaret, this famous cabaret which saw the birth of the “French cancan” and which is always in service. These two windmills served to grind wheat but also to press grape to make wine. Formerly, Montmartre possessed numerous windmills. These two mills are the only remaining ones. Agnieszka – Moulin de la Galette (here the “Radet”) – Montmartre Gradually, the “Moulin de la Galette” was transformed into a cabaret. The ball of the “Moulin de la Galette” was famous and attracted numerous artists. Among them, Auguste Renoir, as witnesses his pictures: “Le bal du Moulin de la Galette”. Bal du moulin de la Galette, Auguste Renoir, 1876, Musée d’Orsay In Paris, works of art are not only in museums: the “Street Art” can be seen almost everywhere. See the one-way street sign behind Agnieszka on the photo near the Mill.Had you noticed this man who takes the white bar? Merci Agnieszka ! The route of the tour:

At the top of Paris with Bart after a sports ascent

Bart – At the top of “La butte Montmartre” 7:27 AM – With Bart of Delft (Netherlands), we left the heights of the North of Paris to join the edges of the Seine. The departure was thus easy thanks to the long descent of the street of Amsterdam. Having joined the Opera, then the place Vendôme and after, the Champs Elysées, we took the left bank to follow the Seine. Returned by the “Pont des Arts” on the right bank, we ran northward to undertake our ascent towards Montmartre and reach our goal at the feet of the “Sacré-Coeur” church. On our way back, we crossed galleries of the center of Paris, galleries which we also call the passages (Web page in French). Below, on our route, the passage Verdeau: Bart – Passage Verdeau Merci Bart ! The route of the tour :

Paris Competitions News: Les foulées du Tertre – Climbing to Montmartre

Saturday, 26th of March. We ran the Foulées du Tertre. This 10 km is a very original race in Paris, quite unusual, starting in the afternoon, a Saturday, but above all, taking place in Montmartre, in the middle of the numerous tourists. Montmartre is a 130 meters high hill, in the north of Paris, a very well-known charming “village”, in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. Hilly place? Yes, this day, the runners experienced it running three sloping loops, running on the pavement de “la butte Montmartre” (butte=mound)… Hard but very pleasant race, notably by this very typical atmosphere. Michael from the US, who, with his wife, took a Paris running tour with us during the week, enjoyed to compete with us on this very local race*. Besides, the organizers of the race welcomed and exposed the work of a friend, a painter who has an original vision of running. You like art, you like running, see the art of Vincent Dogna. Vincent is an artist but also a runner. If you already ran a competition, seeing his paintings, you will feel again those particular feelings we get when we compete. * If you want to compete in Paris and if you book a tour with us, tell us and we can show you the route and help you to prepare the competition (the Paris marathon, for example). An advice on these races? Ask us! We can also help you to register. The web sites are often in French (but we can help you if you ask). Of course, if you do not want to compete in Paris and want to fully enjoy sight jogging, we are there for you. We love competition, running, but above all Paris!
